Rug Pads Canada — Buying Guide & Sizing for Canadian Homes
Rug Pads in Canada: How Rugsville Canada Picks the Right Underlay for Every Rug We Ship
Rugsville Canada has been moving area rugs across the country for over a decade — through Canadian winters, condo hardwoods, laminate townhouses, and tiled entryways. Every rug we ship has a recommended pad matched to the floor and rug, because the wrong pad turns a beautiful CAD $1,200 rug into a tripping hazard, and the right pad keeps it looking new for ten-plus winters.
This page is the cheat sheet our Canadian customer-service team uses when buyers ask “which pad goes with my rug?” If you only read one section, read the one that matches your floor.
The 60-Second Rug Pad Decision Tree (Canadian Edition)
- Hardwood, engineered wood, vinyl plank, or laminate? → Felt-and-natural-rubber pad — no PVC, no plasticisers, safe on Canadian wood-floor finishes year-round. (See Super Lock Natural or Superior Lock Premium.)
- Tile, polished concrete, or cold basement floor? → Open-weave natural-rubber grip pad with thermal cushioning. (See All Stop Non Slip or Contour Lock.)
- Area rug on top of wall-to-wall carpet? → Anchor-style pad with hooked backing — keeps the rug from creeping under foot traffic. (See Anchor Grip or Carpet Lock.)
- Three-season porch or covered deck? → UV-rated outdoor pad. (See Super Lock Outdoor.)
- Hand-knotted wool or vintage rug? → Premium felt-and-rubber, 10 mm (3/8″) minimum — cushions the knots and absorbs the shock from foot traffic on concrete and hardwood subfloors.
Sizing Your Pad to Your Rug (Imperial & Metric)
A rug pad should be 2.5–5 cm (1–2″) smaller than the rug on every side. That keeps the pad invisible from above, lets the rug edge taper to the floor, and prevents the pad peeking out as a tripping line.
| If your rug is… | Order a pad |

| 8′ x 10′ (~244 x 305 cm) | 7′6″ x 9′6″ (~229 x 290 cm) |
| 9′ x 12′ (~274 x 366 cm) | 8′6″ x 11′6″ (~259 x 351 cm) |

Materials, in Plain Canadian English
- Felt-and-natural-rubber: the rug-industry default across Canada. Felt cushions, rubber grips. Lasts 10+ winters.
- Open-weave natural rubber: thin, breathable, ideal under low-pile rugs and on tile, stone, or polished concrete — especially in entryways where Canadian winter slush hits the floor.
- Memory foam & PVC: we don’t sell these. They flatten in 6–12 months and can mar the wood-floor finishes common in Canadian condos and townhouses.
