Indoor-outdoor rugs

Indoor-outdoor rugs are woven from synthetic fibre that does not absorb water, which is what lets them live on a deck, a covered porch, a balcony or a three-season room without rotting or growing mildew. The same property makes them the practical answer for the hardest spots inside a Canadian house — a mudroom or entryway that takes salt and slush from November through March, a kitchen, or a basement.

What they handle

Rain, snow, spills and sunlight. These rugs can be hosed down and left to dry, which is not true of wool, jute or cotton. They also resist fading in direct sun far better than natural fibre, so a south-facing deck will not bleach the pattern out over one summer.

What to know before buying

Store the rug dry over winter rather than leaving it out under snow load — these rugs tolerate weather but the trapped moisture underneath will mark a wood deck. If the rug sits on a hard surface, use a non-slip underlay. And let it dry fully before rolling it, since a rolled damp rug will hold that damp for weeks.

Available in flatweave and low-pile constructions across a range of sizes, priced in Canadian dollars and shipped across Canada.
