Round Rugs
Round area rugs
A round rug does something a rectangle cannot: it breaks the grid. In a room where every line is square — cabinets, counters, windows, the room itself — a circle softens the whole arrangement. That is why round rugs land most naturally under a round dining table, in an entryway, beneath a reading chair, or in a nursery where there are no sharp corners to catch.
Sizing a round rug
Under a round dining table, measure the table's diameter and add about four feet, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. In an entry, the rug should clear the door's swing. Under a chair, the rug reads best when it extends past the chair on all sides rather than sitting exactly underneath it.
Construction
Round rugs are harder to make well than rectangular ones — the weaver has to keep the circle true while the tension changes on every row, which is why a badly made round rug sits unevenly on the floor. Ours are made in wool, silk blends and jute, hand-knotted, hand-tufted and flatwoven, and we also stock round and square sizes together for rooms where either shape would work.
