The tufted pile is thick and uniform, comfortable underfoot, and suited to bedrooms and living rooms where softness matters more than heirloom longevity. The deep shag pile is the softest option underfoot; check door clearance before placing it in a doorway. Wool is naturally resilient, springs back after furniture is moved, resists staining thanks to its lanolin, and insulates against cold floors, which is why it remains the standard for rugs that see daily use.
